Oh, the story of my belly button piercing
AppId is over the quota
By Elizabeth from TN
I remember getting my belly button pierced like it was just yesterday, because it was such an experience for me! I decided that I wanted to get it done because I had seen so many celebrities, models, and even most of my friends with their navels pierced. And it wasn’t just that, the belly button piercings are so cute too!
I decided to ask my mom before I asked my dad, since he’s stricter than my mom is. So, I asked her, and she said, “Yeah, if you can pay for it and have your grades up to A’s and B’s.” Those didn’t seem like really hard things to do, I did things around the house a few trusted online survey sites for money, and
I studied so much and did everything I possibly could to get my C average to a B average, and I did in about four weeks! But then I had to ask my dad. I asked him saying something like, “Dad, I asked Mom, and she said it was okay, and that if I had the grades and money, I could get my belly button pierced.” So he asked me all these questions abou it, and of course I answered them from doing research, and he said it was okay, which got me excited!
I chose the closest piercing studio near me; I live right outside of Memphis, so I got my piercing done there. The piercer was super nice and told me about the risks, what she was going to do, how to take care of it, and then let me pick out my jewelry. I picked out a diamond! Then, she sat me down in the chair, drew dots on my belly button, and asked if they were even. I said yes, and then she started. First she numbed the area, so it wouldn’t hurt at much, and trust me, it helped. Then she used her clamps.
Those hurt more than the needle itself and then she put the needle through, and after that the ring itself, and the switching from the needle to the jewelry hurt worst. Overall, it wasn’t that painful. Maybe a 3. I got my belly button pierced just about a month ago, so it hasn’t healed completely yet, but right now it is doing completely good!
I can’t wait to show it off in the summer!!

Watch as Lyndzi teaches you everything you need to know about how to change out a belly ring. From standard banana bell styles, to rings with beautiful dangles, and even top drop navel jewelry, she changes out her jewelry in real time while giving belly piercing tips and know-how.
As Lyndzi explains in the video, most belly piercings are initially done with a regular surgical grade stainless steel banana barbell belly ring, usually with gem tips, and these items should also be used during sleep and for general daily wear. During the day and for special occasions, dangling belly rings (those that have a charm, chains, or some type of movable decoration) are also a common choice.
Perhaps one of the most difficult belly rings to put in for the first time, the last common type of navel ring, is the top drop or “top down” style. These, like the celtic cross belly jewelry shown in the video, are exactly what they sound like: a belly ring that has the decoration at the top instead of the bottom. This style of navel jewelry is inserted through a piercing from the top and then has a bottom ball that secures it in place.

When you take it out for the first time to put a new one in you need to know which kind it is and I never would’ve known that I was trying to put in a “top drop” one if it weren’t for watching. No wonder it looked funny!

Belly Piercings

One of the most popular piercings going, the navel or 'belly' piercing is actually a piercing of the upper wall of the navel rather than the naval itself.
Made popular by model Christie Turlington, when she showed hers off at a London fashion show, rings or curved barbells are most commonly worn with a belly button piercing, although there's a wide range of ornate jewellery which can be worn. These piercings take quite a while to heal - with the minimum being quoted at around 8 weeks, but 6 months is also quite common, and for some people, it can take up to a year - it all depends on your general health and diet, as well as how well you cra efor it during healing. Firstly - Ask your piercer for aftercare advice before or after you get the piercing done - any piercer who knows their job will be able to advise you on all aspects of caring for your new piercing and will be only too pleased to offer their experience.
There's a risk of rejection with a belly piercing, like with all piercings, and just after you get your belly pierced, don't touch or play with it, as it really needs time to recover from the initial shock, and to let your body get used to it. If your piercer hasn't suggested any alternative methods you can 'stem clean' your new belly piercing after a few hours of having it done. Get a small glass, fill it with boiling water, and natural rock salt, and then let the water cool for a while. Lean your body forward over the glass so that there's a seal between you and the glass (you don't want all the water to spill out everywhere as the next step is leaning backwards a little:) Lean backwards a bit so that the salty water makes contact with your navel piercing, and let the piercing soak in it for about ten minutes - salt's a natural disinfectant, and the salt water will clean and cleanse you piercing. Next, you have to dry it, as it helps healing, but don't use an old towel or anything that might have germs on it - the goal is to keep infection away from the area as much as possible, so use a clean tissue, and gently dab the belly piercing until it's dry. It's recommended by many that you clean your piercing regulary for around 3 -4 months or until it's healed fully. It's very important to keep it clean to prevent infection, even when you can't really be bothered anymore, as it'll just mean you have to go through it all again if it gets infected.
When it comes to bathing or showering, have a shower if possible, as the water's contiuously running and is therefore more hygienic - however, if you only like baths, or only have a bath, don't use strong soaps , wash you hair, or shave any part of your delightful form whilst in the bath. Strong soaps, shampoo or oils will irritate a new piercing and cause trouble, and shaved hairs may get into the piercing and cause infection. So wash your hair and shave afterwards once your piercing is safe and dry. After bathing, your piercing may look soggy - just leave it for a while, don't play with or prod it, and then clean with salt water, and dry gently. Wear loose clothing if possible - avoid tight things which won't allow the piercing to get the air it needs to heal, and if you have to wear tight clothes or are involved in sports at school or anywhere, some folks say buying an eye patch helps, which you can use to cover and further protect your belly piercing whilst playing. If you can sleep on your back, it's much better, as sleeping on your front will cause irritation to the piercing as you move around at night - maybe you could try piling pillows up on each side of you so you don't roll over in the night - at least until it's healed a fair bit.
As always, if you have any concerns get in touch with your piercer, as they should be able to advise on aftercar. If you're worried that it's infected, go and see a doctor who may be able to advise on how to sure the infection without losing the piercing - but don't let it get too bad before doing this ...
Should You Have Your Belly Pierced?

Have you been considering getting your belly button pierced, but aren’t sure if it would be safe? Like most other things, there are some cautions that go with navel piercing, and some people who simply shouldn’t do it. Overall, navel piercing is safe for almost everyone who wants it, but there are a few exceptions. If you belong in one of the following groups, you should consult a doctor before you decide to get your navel – or most other parts of your body pierced.
If you’re pregnantWhile many women have no problems with their navel piercings during pregnancy, it’s not recommended to have your navel pierced while you are pregnant. In addition to the risk of infection, your skin just isn’t quite the same when it’s being stretched out to accommodate the little bundle growing inside. Wait till after the baby and get your navel pierced to celebrate.
If you have a heart conditionWhile it’s very rare, people with heart conditions run a heightened risk of developing infective endocarditis – a bacterial infection of the heart muscle – when they get a body piercing. Most professional piercers suggest that you speak to your doctor before you make a decision to get a navel piercing if you have a heart condition. Some doctors will give you a course of pre-emptive antibiotics to help prevent an infection from developing. This is recommended especially if you’ve ever had corrective surgery for a heart condition, or if you have a moderate to severe heart condition.
If you have diabetes, allergies, asthma, hemophilia or immune irregularitiesAny of the above conditions can predispose you to infection when you get a body piercing, and most impede healing. Again, talk to your doctor first about the possible risks and any precautions that you should take. Prophylactic antibiotics may be prescribed so that infection doesn’t develop, or you may be advised against getting the piercing.
If you take anticoagulant medicationsAnticoagulant medications thin your blood and prevent it from clotting. If you are taking anticoagulant medications for a heart condition, high blood pressure or any other reason, be sure to inform the person who is doing your piercing of the fact. You should also speak with your doctor before making a decision to find out if there are any precautions you should take to make it safer.
If you have a skin infection, scarring or other skin condition at the site you want piercedThe Association of Professional Piercers suggests that its members may refuse to do a piercing without a second consultation from a medical professional if there is a skin rash or abnormality, including bumps, moles, freckles or warts.
If you are obeseThere’s a higher risk of navel piercing complications in people who are overweight. This is due in part to skin-on-skin contact.
If you have an outie belly buttonMany piercers suggest that people with outie belly buttons not have them pierced. Because the internal organs are actually closer to the surface, there’s a higher risk of infection or damage.
If you have an umbilical herniaSee the caution for people with outie belly buttons. In a hernia, the muscle wall is torn allowing your inner organs to press against the skin from the inside. The risk of complications from a piercing that close is unacceptably high.
If you are under 18Most reputable piercers will refuse to do a navel piercing without parental permission before age 16, and many won’t do them at all if you are under 18. Part of the reason for this is that your body is still developing and growing, and damaging the tissue is not healthy for a growing body.

Belly piercing at 16.

By Brianna from Cameron.
For my 16th birthday my mom wanted to do something special since I wasn’t able to get my liscence so she asked if I wanted to get my belly button pierced and of course I said yes, I was so excited!
My mom did the research and we decided to go to eau claire which was an hour away. We took my mom, my boyfriend and my moms best friend. I wasn’t nervous on the way there but as soon as we got there I was really scared. I walked in there and it was really nice inside.
the guy was kind of scary because all his tattoos and he had bumpy implants in his arm, but he was super nice. I got to pick out the jewelry and the guy led me and one person into the back room. I picked my boyfriend.
He showed me everything was starile and had me stand up so he could put the dot on my tummy. it looked good so i layed down on the table. He didn’t use a clamp. i thought he was just poking me with the needle to position it but it turns out he was piercing it! I was so surprised.
It was not as bad as I thought.
He told me to wash it twice a day with nonscented soap. it actually took a while to heal, almost 6th months, but i changed it almost right away which wasn’t a good idea. I love it so much. I love changing it and stuff. my favorite belly button ring was only $6. I plan on getting more piercings. I’m actually getting my tragus done in less than a week, and I’m really nervous about how bad that will hurt.
After my belly button piercing everyone wanted to take pictures and stuff. We went out to eat at olive garden and it didn’t hurt to sleep on at all. Just a little sore, especially when it caught on my clothes :/ I like telling people the story, because I want them to have a good piercing experiance too. Hope this helps (: x.

Question: Pros & Cons of Belly Piercing
AppId is over the quota
She SMS'd me this afternoon saying "How would you feel if I came home with my belly pierced?"
I'm not absolutely sure why I'm uneasy about this. I am concerned about infection, getting snagged on things & possibly tearing her skin and possibly scarring. When I told her that, she asked how it was any different to her nose piercing. (I also have a pierced nose, and have done since I was her age.)
She's always looked after her ear & nose piercings and has never had an infection, so I do trust her to follow post-piercing care instructions.
I've done a quick browse of some web sites, and it seems like navel piercings take much longer to heal & may be more painful than ear/nose piercings.
She doesn't do any sport or ever get particularly sweaty, and only goes swimming if I take her somewhere tropical.
It's also unlikely many people will ever see it, as she is quite a conservative dresser. She is fashionable and terribly cute (a friend best described her as "dainty"), but she rarely has uncovered legs & arms, and NEVER reveals her midriff in public, so it's not like she'll be out & and about with her belly out all over the place.
The place she asked at today said that at 16 she doesn't need parental permission (we're in Melbourne, Australia and she has a job so has the financial means.) If she does get it done I will make sure it's done somewhere reputable, she gets quality jewellery and follows after-care.
So, as I continue my journey of coming to terms with the fact my precious little baby is growing up and making decisions that I have less & less say in, please share with us your anecdata of poking holes in your belly button before I become totally irrational and start quoting why Traditional Chinese Medicine & acupuncture thinks it's a terrible idea.
I'm interested in short term issues, as well as long term (pregnancy & post pregnancy issues, aging saggy belly when she is 90, laparoscopy issues if she should ever need one, etc)

Important Facts About Belly Piercing

navel-piercingIf you are new to the idea of belly piercing, then you need to get a good website that will give you plenty of information regarding this piercing. Belly piercing is almost as old as man where evidence of it being used in eras gone is prevalent. The Mayan people and the Aztec of long ago civilizations used it as a kind of cultural mark. Today, this piercing has lost its cultural significance and only people who are artistic in nature do it, to bring their aesthetic side out. If you love your body, you will want to enhance its beauty with the belly button rings. First, you have to get this piercing.
navel-pieringsThere are many reasons why you should first seek a lot of information about belly piercing before you do it. One of them is so that you can be able to know the types of jewelries that are meant for the belly piercing. Another benefit is so that you can know the pros and cons of the procedure. You do not want to venture into this activity blindly because the belly is a very sensitive part of the body.
belly-piercingEvery day, belly piercing becomes trendier and grows in popularity, it started with the chart busting musicians and dancers, but now the bug has caught on. Every urban youth and people are getting this piercing left and right. The good news is if it is done by an expert, there will be little or no risk that will be associated with it. You too could become part of this new identity. Just by spotting a belly piercing, you will be joining the exclusive club of the ever-trending urbanite youth. However, make sure that you gather as much information about this procedure as you can, so that you do not venture into it blindly. One thing that is for sure though, is that you will never regret spending your time and money on it.
The most common of all belly piercing options is the navel piercing. The belly button is pierced and then a ring or whatever jewelry you want is inserted. However, it is advisable to wait until your belly button has healed completely before you can replace the surgical jewelry that the piercer put there with your own. The good news is that you will not only be part of the trend, but if you are a little experimental with your jewelry, you should be able to make all those who see you go gaga.
Although belly piercing is more of a surface piercing, rejection, which is normally associated with surface piercings is not likely to occur. The healing period for your piercing may vary, and it could be fast or slow. In most cases, your navel piercing should heal fast but if the healing period extends, then no worry because it will eventually heal, in six months. The care that you give this piercing should be equal to the care that you give to all other surface piercings, or all piercings for that case.
But just why is navel/belly piercing all the rage in fashion today? Someone may ask. The truth is that this type of body piercing is here to stay, with more people experimenting with a number of jewelries. What’s more, this might be the only chance that you will get to expose your belly and show how fine it is. You can be sure that with a good piece of jewelry on your navel, all eyes will be on you, or rather, on your belly. After the piercing has healed, do flaunt it a little, so that people can admire it.
piercing-navelDo not pay attention to the myths surrounding belly piercing. After all, some of them are extremely ridiculous and even a fool could not believe them. For example, there is one that goes that should your navel be infected as a result of the piercing, then the infection will move to the liver and infect it too. This is a blatant myth. However, you will have to be careful in the healing period of the piercing; clothes might rub against your belly button making it sore. It is imperative that you take care of this by wearing clothes with a wider allowance.
belly_piercingsPeople who have a slightly extended navel might have it easy to do a piercing. However, the size or protuberance of the navel is not important because after all, such cases are rare. Just find a good piercer today and you will get an excellent belly piercing job. Your imagination is your only obstacle to getting the best piercing job on your navel today. You will never regret your decision. Just remember one thing only; that the belly ring is hot, very hot. Get this piercing today.

My big sister mila inspired me to get my belly button pierced, She told me it didn’t hurt so I asked my parents they said they will have to think about cause im only 14 years old so the next week or so I was allowed.
So i was about to go to the shop to get it done at Earth And Moons. Thats were my sister got heres done so I decided to it only costed $60.00 so not bad and the girl that did it she was so nice she even waited for me to get ready and stuff.
So she got the clampers out and then she got the need she said breath in 1 breath and then let go when I tell you and she did it twice and it worked perfectly and it took a week to two weeks to heal but after all its really cute.
She gave me instuctions on how to keep it clean and stuffand where to ge tbelly button rings but every where I look they are too exspensive so I only got one belly ring and I try to keep it as clean as possible. It is very pretty now and thank you guys so much.

The day after my birthday, my mom had to work in the morning so i decided i would go get my belly pierced since its something, i have always wanted to do. But never got permission for it! haha
So we decided we where going to go somewhere where i would only have to pay 25 dollars for it, the place was called Block Monster. We arrive there and it was close -_-
I had done the research and everything, and not one did it mention on their website on Tuesday it had to be by appointment. Then we decided to go to a place called sorry mom in downtown Fredericksburg, and because there not licensed they were closed as well.
Great! I was so frustrated and mad at this moment, we decided we would try one last place called Top Notch. After driving around for 30 min and making circles and being completely lost we found the place. We walked in and automatically they made us fill out forms, as k for ID yadi yadi yada! Payed 40 dollars for it!
My guy best friend was with me and my sis we were patiently waiting, then the piercer called my name. Everyone wanted to come into the room with me but only one person was allowed, so my guy best friend came with me
we walk into the room, My guys bff sees a chair and asks if he can sit in it lol and I tell him your suppose to hold my hand babe and the piercer was like there’s no holding hands here!
He told me to stand up straight and he marked the two holes made me go see if they were straight! Then told me to lay down, I felt him clamp my skin and then the next thing I knew it was done and over with! Didn’t hurt at all.
I OD clean my belly button because I don’t want to risk getting an infection. I clean mines in the shower I use Dial soap the bar not the liquid kind. And then I put hot water and a little bit of sea salt mix it all together and put that on my piercing and last but not least I use the H2O spray at least 3 times a day!
Belly Piercing – Bar or Ring?
AppId is over the quota

Piercing placement and jewelry style are extremely important decisions when considering getting your belly pierced.
Depending on your shape, the style of jewelry – whether ring or bar – could be the one you must always wear.
Most of the jewelry you will find in shops or online are curved. Curved bars are the preferred option for most. However, if your belly is flat and your navel not too deep, then the bar is best.
If your belly button is deep, a vertical piercing using a ring is possible. Use a ring with a diameter of 7/16 or 1/2 inch. A 3/8 inch ring can be used if you have a perfectly defined, petite, lobe-shaped navel. Your piercer should be able to tell you which is right for you.
A bar should be used if you are only piercing your lower-navel. It is also important to ensure your navel jewelry is ling enough to accomodate any tissue expansion (an extra 1/16 to 1/8 inch is usually adequate).
Whichever is right for you, there are hundreds of choices of belly rings available. The recent explosion in the popularity of belly piercing means you can get almost any style or color in either ring or bar.

Mental dilemma over whether to categorise this under Fashion or Health

navel-piercingIf you are new to the idea of belly piercing, then you need to get a good website that will give you plenty of information regarding this piercing.
