So basically, had Skype for a while but the built-in mic on my laptop has started playing up. My dad had this lying around. The only connection it has on it is a 3.5mm jack which I've just plugged straight into the microphone port on the front of my laptop.

When I do the same on my phone or iPod, it works fine, but my laptop won't even recognise it so I can't pick it as my default microphone on Skype. Am I doing something wrong?
