Have you been considering getting your belly button pierced, but aren’t sure if it would be safe? Like most other things, there are some cautions that go with navel piercing, and some people who simply shouldn’t do it. Overall, navel piercing is safe for almost everyone who wants it, but there are a few exceptions. If you belong in one of the following groups, you should consult a doctor before you decide to get your navel – or most other parts of your body pierced.

If you’re pregnant

While many women have no problems with their navel piercings during pregnancy, it’s not recommended to have your navel pierced while you are pregnant. In addition to the risk of infection, your skin just isn’t quite the same when it’s being stretched out to accommodate the little bundle growing inside. Wait till after the baby and get your navel pierced to celebrate.

If you have a heart condition

While it’s very rare, people with heart conditions run a heightened risk of developing infective endocarditis – a bacterial infection of the heart muscle – when they get a body piercing. Most professional piercers suggest that you speak to your doctor before you make a decision to get a navel piercing if you have a heart condition. Some doctors will give you a course of pre-emptive antibiotics to help prevent an infection from developing. This is recommended especially if you’ve ever had corrective surgery for a heart condition, or if you have a moderate to severe heart condition.

If you have diabetes, allergies, asthma, hemophilia or immune irregularities

Any of the above conditions can predispose you to infection when you get a body piercing, and most impede healing. Again, talk to your doctor first about the possible risks and any precautions that you should take. Prophylactic antibiotics may be prescribed so that infection doesn’t develop, or you may be advised against getting the piercing.

If you take anticoagulant medications

Anticoagulant medications thin your blood and prevent it from clotting. If you are taking anticoagulant medications for a heart condition, high blood pressure or any other reason, be sure to inform the person who is doing your piercing of the fact. You should also speak with your doctor before making a decision to find out if there are any precautions you should take to make it safer.

If you have a skin infection, scarring or other skin condition at the site you want pierced

The Association of Professional Piercers suggests that its members may refuse to do a piercing without a second consultation from a medical professional if there is a skin rash or abnormality, including bumps, moles, freckles or warts.

If you are obese

There’s a higher risk of navel piercing complications in people who are overweight. This is due in part to skin-on-skin contact.

If you have an outie belly button

Many piercers suggest that people with outie belly buttons not have them pierced. Because the internal organs are actually closer to the surface, there’s a higher risk of infection or damage.

If you have an umbilical hernia

See the caution for people with outie belly buttons. In a hernia, the muscle wall is torn allowing your inner organs to press against the skin from the inside. The risk of complications from a piercing that close is unacceptably high.

If you are under 18

Most reputable piercers will refuse to do a navel piercing without parental permission before age 16, and many won’t do them at all if you are under 18. Part of the reason for this is that your body is still developing and growing, and damaging the tissue is not healthy for a growing body.

I went out this morning around 10.45 and the flat was fine. Come back with a friend at 5, and literally as soon as I opened the door a strong smell of gloss paint hit me. My friend said she could smell it too, we went back to hers and I thought nothing of it. Come back at 1 and it is still here, in every room, really strong and it is worrying me. I don't think it can be gas as my flat does not have gas, is there a chance it is gas from a fridge/freezer or coming through from a flat or something around me????

I am scared of going to sleep and would really like some advice? Will it just be paint I can smell from someone else's flat? It is getting to my head and I can't smell anything anywhere outside.

It really is as strong as if I was painting it in every room in my flat... =Swell gas smells like rotten eggs so you can pretty much rule that out if it smells like paint.

Try asking the people in the flats next to yours if they can smell anything? obviously if they have been painting they would mention it when you ask.

It's not just a 'smell'. It's vaporised industrial chemicals. The kind of stuff that goes into varnish. One of a group of chemicals in which there are some of the most potent poisons known to man, which even poison soil. They enter your blood through the nasal membrane and bronchioli, and go straight through the blood-brain barrier because they are thinner than water (alcohol/ether molecular structure). Because they KILL BRAIN CELLS there is a sign on every packet of paint, varnish and thinner. 'Use only in well-ventilated places'. At the moment it sounds like you're inhaling it almost as much as oxygen. You might as well drink meths, if that doesn't bother you. It's hard at this time to ask the neighbours, I'm scared to go to sleep because of the smell >.< Am I being silly? Do you think I should just get a uplift or a slight reduction also?

History and archaeology discussion, revision, exam and homework help. 58 Minutes Ago: 21st September 2011 19:21 Currently, I'm doing Geography but I'm contemplating about switching to History because the Geography department at my sixth form is absolutely terrible. In comparison, the History department has amazing staff and at least they can actually teach. Moreover, the trip is £370~ (ish) which is a bit absurd and they're making us do both of our exams in June... I don't think I can handle remembering all the case studies and facts for two units to be honest and my exam technique for Geography is horrible so this was the main thing that made me doubt my decision :/

Now I didn't do History at GCSE, so I don't know if this will heavily disadvantage me. The exam board is AQA. Will I find History hard if I didn't do it at GCSE? Also, what did people think about it? Did you find it interesting? Was it difficult?

I have to change my options by the end of this week (ideally..) so replies and advice will be much appreciated.

Basically my cousin is applying to medicine, however he fluffed his A levels and got BBB (I think)? anyway he had mitigating circumstances which involved his mother ( my aunty) having cancer and dying nearing exam time.

He emailed the Uni's and they said to include it... but where? should he get his referee to mention it, or should he include it in his PS. I told him that if he puts it in his PS- it is already constricted for words, so get the referee to mention it in full detail.

The best place is in the reference, I think, but more than likely the universities will contact him and ask for the evidence to be sent to them.

Hello in the an A2 student who ruining 2 as in Fmaths modules (going and to FP1 next year).

...I also got a c in geography and me, you think question, that I should repeat in January. I would but the following things I worried about am: Imperial (what I want to apply for) don't like repetitions, my chances of an offer to reduce are so this? also, there is enough time to mathematics (C3 OCR) and my physics (PHYA4 - AQA) revise modules?

An argument that I could define the entire public perception of the coalition Government, the NHS could privatize the decision, depending on who you believe, a complete modernisation and redevelopment lead an important public service, or a complete and utter total disaster.

But what do you think?

Do you think that the privatisation of the NHS for the public advantage would be that it would result in more competition and a subsequent improvement in the quality of care?

Or do you think that it would lead a mentality of 'Profit before patients' what the interests of the patient are considered secondary to the search for big profits?

Perhaps do you think that it could be a compromise? Limited privatization of several key services within the NHS, leading to greater efficiency and service, but ultimately leave the NHS as a majority of public service.

Hello

I have made on a few dates with this really nice guy. Now he has invited me to his place, he will be cooking me dinner and we see a DVD and chill out together.

Just not sure whether to dress you up or down. Both our events so far have for drinks, and I have worn jeans and a nice top.

Should I wear considering that the date in his house is like jeans and T-shirt? Or because he is cooking, and he says, it is ', to it a special night to convince me he pays off ', I should dress.

And if so, you count dress, how much?

Okay, that's the situation:
I have just year 10. My school offers French and German for GCSE. Stupid, I chose French but not German, and as I have a natural talent for languages that I should have to choose German as well as French rather than the choice of business studies (the worst GCSE-choice).
I have taught myself Spanish in the last 9 months and the Spanish GCSE privately with AQA in a year, in an A *, I, entered and I want another teach me this year, but I know not, choose.

I can not choose one from you:
French - do at GCSE anyway
German - choose for GCSE, so that the school does not allow, that I use it
Spanish - completed in a year reach A *.
Italian - offered for GCSE in sixth form, so I will do now that, because I want to take it then
Russian - grammar is too heavy for me

What is your inspiration?

Now, if you one of these languages, which you listed then maybe for dead languages such as Latin (which are much easier bearing in mind that you learn already 2 Romance languages) go or even ancient Greek, if you a bit of a challenge to.

Also, there is always the possibility, a Chinese and Japanese languages, but it is unlikely that you will learn you do much at all if just it to the level of GCSE, bearing in mind how hard are these languages compared to European languages, but also in any case, if you want a little then could a challenge, also.

Otherwise bear in mind that the testing motherboards provide only a limited number of languages, only you could a gander on any language at all, there are loads and loads of resources online. You need not be a qualification in a language for it useful.

This is pure tyranny.

Riots (or rather, criminal damage, vandalism, etc.) is guilty a crime, and those and imprisoned obviously may not to vote. But actually vote for absolutely no reason except for the fact that they may earn not enough to pay the tax, revoked or a whole sector of society that it benefits claim is totally bizarre.

There is no possible justification or reason linking to right to vote with is a taxpayer.
