Piercing gauge and measurements
The gauge of a piercing jewelry piece refers to the jewelry as thick (see figure C in the chart below). The measuring system is not used in many parts of the world, and the thickness of the piercing jewelry is measured in Milimetres, so here are some information, to show you what the different meters in Milimetres mean.

It is important to find the right measurements for your piercing jewelry, and your Piercist will be able to advise you on what types of jewelry, and what works best with your piercing sizes. Different people have slightly different requirements, the us all being physically different, but there are some standard sizes and jewelry types used usually for certain piercings.
Some of the most common instruments are as follows:
Navel, tongue and nipple jewelry - 1.6 mm (or 14 gauge)
Eyebrows - 1.2 mm (16 gauge)
Nose - 1.0 mm (18 gauge)
Labret piercing are usually 1.2 mm (16 gauge) or 1.6 mm (14 gauge)
