Discussions about the Open University. Old 2 Hours Ago: 25th September 2011 01:49 I was told that if I wanted to continue studying with the open university I would need to pass the course I am completing now, or have to wait 3 years before I could re-register. Everything was going fine, I was keep getting progressively higher marks in my TMA's until June. In June I broke up with my partner of 4 years, and the OU was put to the back of my mind. I've been so stressed with what my ex partner has been doing/saying that I haven't been able to pick up any course book since. Even now in slight ways he is affecting me.

However I was really enjoying the course and want to continue it, I would be prepared to sit the exam, though I don't think I'll have enough points to pass. I know that this is what I want to do and I don't know how to handle the situation.

Do you think they may reverse their original decision if I give reasons as to why I was unable to complete the course? Or will it not be good enough?

Sorry to hear that twinkle.

First things first, did you pass the assignments part? And which module are you studying? Depending on those, I can think of a few ways around it.

-edit also, where did you hear that you needed to wait three years? Is this the time until you can repeat the module, or the time until you can sign up for another course? Were you told this because you'd dropped two others and this is your third?

I had to drop out of 2 other courses because they really didn't suit me.

I feel like I have found the course/oathway I want to go down and feel that if I don't do it now I may not have the chance to in three years time. It's a long time to wait to do something you really want.

Also, does your OCAS come out at 40% or more after substitution?

And, what classification do you want for your final degree?

More questions, sorry

Got it, yeah, I dropped two also when changing pathway. Old 1 Hour Ago: 25th September 2011 02:55 Have the deadlines for those other three passed?

Yeah the deadline has passed, though I got an e-mail saying something about having until the 1st od October to submit any late TMA's. Though I don't think I'll be able to complete all three, I am hoping to complete at least 1/2.
I want atleast a 2:2 for my finial degree.

Do you think if I contact student services they may let me continue?

The options I can see here then are;

1) Give them a call and ask if that module qualifies you for the interrupted study scheme or if you'd be allowed to rejoin a future presentation from where you left off. This won't affect your final classification. It may eat some financial support though if you're using it, so worth asking them about that.

2) If that doesn't work, I'd go for what you suggest and tell them about your situation. If they do allow you to do the module again next year from scratch, or they don't stop you from studying next year, your classification won't be affected again. It'll just mean repeating assignments and losing a little time.

I'd also consider pointing out that the new fee structure makes waiting three years vastly more expensive and would exclude you from a degree. Finally, if they say yes, get a name or get it in writing

3) Last resort. If your OCAS is a pass grade, head in to the exam and just aim for a pass. If you get your 40, you avoid the three years. If you get 15-39 you get a resit and a good chance to avoid the thee years with extra revision.

In addition to 3, you don't necessarily have to include that module in your final degree transcript if the pass hurts your classification. Pick up an alternative 60 and use A200's course material for personal interest. You can always decide this right before you complete your final module though depending on future outcomes - no rush to do it now.

Considering the available options, the one and only route to that three year 'ban' is scoring <15 on your exam (or not turning up) and being denied other options - so, extremely unlikely.
