She SMS'd me this afternoon saying "How would you feel if I came home with my belly pierced?"

I'm not absolutely sure why I'm uneasy about this. I am concerned about infection, getting snagged on things & possibly tearing her skin and possibly scarring. When I told her that, she asked how it was any different to her nose piercing. (I also have a pierced nose, and have done since I was her age.)
She's always looked after her ear & nose piercings and has never had an infection, so I do trust her to follow post-piercing care instructions.

I've done a quick browse of some web sites, and it seems like navel piercings take much longer to heal & may be more painful than ear/nose piercings.

She doesn't do any sport or ever get particularly sweaty, and only goes swimming if I take her somewhere tropical.

It's also unlikely many people will ever see it, as she is quite a conservative dresser. She is fashionable and terribly cute (a friend best described her as "dainty"), but she rarely has uncovered legs & arms, and NEVER reveals her midriff in public, so it's not like she'll be out & and about with her belly out all over the place.

The place she asked at today said that at 16 she doesn't need parental permission (we're in Melbourne, Australia and she has a job so has the financial means.) If she does get it done I will make sure it's done somewhere reputable, she gets quality jewellery and follows after-care.

So, as I continue my journey of coming to terms with the fact my precious little baby is growing up and making decisions that I have less & less say in, please share with us your anecdata of poking holes in your belly button before I become totally irrational and start quoting why Traditional Chinese Medicine & acupuncture thinks it's a terrible idea.

I'm interested in short term issues, as well as long term (pregnancy & post pregnancy issues, aging saggy belly when she is 90, laparoscopy issues if she should ever need one, etc)

Health and Relationships forum guidelinesOld 1 Hour Ago: 27th October 2011 02:22 SuckItAndSee +1   I'm terrible with girls, but I like someone. Help me please! So, I've just turned 19 and am in my first year of university. The truth is that I'm terrible with girls. In fact I've only ever kissed 2 girls! Basically I see all these people at uni who get girlfriends, or manage to get girls at a club or a bar and I don't understand how they do it! I'm not an ugly guy, nor am I shy or boring. I'm actually quite outgoing but I find it incredibly hard to speak to girls if I ever want it to lead somewhere. So I cannot go up to someone random in a club or bar and just introduce myself. I've even tried drinking to see if it will help me be more confident but it does not work. I live in a flat with other first years and all of them have a relationship and often they will talk about them and experiences etc and I feel very down and left out because I cannot join in. So I would just like to know firstly for any suggestions as to how to overcome this fear?

Secondly, there is a girl on my course who I have taken a bit of a shine too. However, I don't have a clue how I could possible take things further. We have only ever spoken briefly and it was about the work and I never get to socialise at all with people on my course as we go in, do a 2 hour seminar and then we all leave. So there is not really time for me to even strike up a casual conversation with her. I managed to sit next to her in the last seminar and I found out where she is from and a tiny bit more - just general stuff in a 5 minute gap we had, but wasn't anything great. I don't even know if she's got a boyfriend. Any suggestions on what to do? Please don't suggest something like, as her for coffee as it would seem weird as we barely know each other and also I couldn't possible do it because of my fear.

Sorry for this essay, it's just a problem I feel I am the only one with and need some advice. Thanks in advance!

Questions and advice about everyday life, from post office opening times to eBay queries or what to buy your loved one for their birthday. Old 54 Minutes Ago: 27th October 2011 02:36   Smell in my flat? Dangerous? What should I do? Hii,

I went out this morning around 10.45 and the flat was fine. Come back with a friend at 5, and literally as soon as I opened the door a strong smell of gloss paint hit me. My friend said she could smell it too, we went back to hers and I thought nothing of it. Come back at 1 and it is still here, in every room, really strong and it is worrying me. I don't think it can be gas as my flat does not have gas, is there a chance it is gas from a fridge/freezer or coming through from a flat or something around me????

I am scared of going to sleep and would really like some advice? Will it just be paint I can smell from someone else's flat? It is getting to my head and I can't smell anything anywhere outside.

Thanks.

You answered your own question. Old 43 Minutes Ago: 27th October 2011 02:46   Re: Smell in my flat? Dangerous? What should I do? But I havn't been painting... It really is as strong as if I was painting it in every room in my flat... =Swell gas smells like rotten eggs so you can pretty much rule that out if it smells like paint.

Try asking the people in the flats next to yours if they can smell anything? obviously if they have been painting they would mention it when you ask.

It's not just a 'smell'. It's vaporised industrial chemicals. The kind of stuff that goes into varnish. One of a group of chemicals in which there are some of the most potent poisons known to man, which even poison soil. They enter your blood through the nasal membrane and bronchioli, and go straight through the blood-brain barrier because they are thinner than water (alcohol/ether molecular structure). Because they KILL BRAIN CELLS there is a sign on every packet of paint, varnish and thinner. 'Use only in well-ventilated places'. At the moment it sounds like you're inhaling it almost as much as oxygen. You might as well drink meths, if that doesn't bother you. Fix it. It's hard at this time to ask the neighbours, I'm scared to go to sleep because of the smell >.< Am I being silly? My friend said I can't get poisoned from invisible gas and that I need to stop being silly and that is will just be paint coming through the ventilators? Thanks for replying by the way (:

I'm sick and TIRED of people telling me I'm beautiful! Everytime I hear these words I just want to punch the person in the mouth. Today a guy came up to me just to say that and walk off??!! I just wanted to scream SHUT UP it's NOT TRUE and whack him on the head why say that and walk away?! Why is that all I EVER get??!! :stomp: No dates or relationships. just pointless, meaningless, worthless STUPID WORDS!!!! :banghead: WHO actually CARES?!?!

the guy I've liked for TWO YEARS, the ONLY guy I've ever liked asks out my best friend!!! MY BEST FRIEND. The most amazing person in the entire world. It's not surprising he would fall for her, I would if I were that way inclined! .

I feel sad for writing this. I don't even know what I want to say. I just got off the phone from the happy bunny telling me every exruciating detail of their conversation. All the wonderful things he said to her. I've never felt such pain in my chest in my life (it actually scared me). Then she asks me if I want to meet up with them afterwards, catch a film? I told her I didn't want to be a third wheel, besides me and him aren't all that close. She then says, Oh no, he mentioned you, he actually said you were really beautiful. ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?!!! WHY?!?! WHAT IS THE NEED?!??! I just cried angry tears when she said that. She doesn't know that I'm practically in love with him, I never told anyone. I love her to bits so of course in time I shall be happy for her, for now, I'm irrationally upset that she never noticed that I liked him (how could she? I never said anything). I will never let her know any of this.

It's not fair. :bawling::cry2::cry:

Gaddafi was captured by the rebels, the white house or anyone else for that matter had no say in the way he was killed and paraded through the streets

Can you imagine the US making a literal rotting trophy or Osama? You can only shove your weight around so far...
But I also can agree that not even a photo could mean torture or some other mishandling on the US side. Not like Gaddafi was handled very well either.

In summary, I don't care too much about how these people were treated, I care a little bit more about innocent casualties.

(oh & I never doubted whether Bin Laden was still alive, lmao)

Old 1 Hour Ago: 27th October 2011 02:23 Guy_AD +1   Re: Catching a glimpse of the corpse: Gaddafi vs Bin Laden Gaddafi was killed by a crowd of rebels in the culmination of a violent civil war. Bin Laden, on the other hand, was assassinated by a highly-trained military squad whose main objectives were to despatch him and remove his body. Do you really think any one of them would have had a camera phone to hand?

The US was also probably quite wary of allowing him to become any more of a martyr for his cause than absolutely possible - from their point of view, if members of Al Qaeda or their supporters were able to see photos of his body it could set off a retaliation attack.

That being said, I personally think it's in the public interest that information of this sort of importance be available freely. It was a high-profile military victory and it is important that people are able to verify for themselves what they are told by the authorities. Not allowing this tends to cause large-scale distrust of the government and military.

Be part of the trendy fashion with micro dermal piercing

Be part of the trendy fashion with micro dermal piercing

If you believe that you have an aesthetic side to yourself and you are yearning to bring it out, then the thing to do is to go for the micro dermal piercing. This kind of piercing is permanent. It is not only aesthetic, but it is a very beautiful addition to your general outlook. If you can, it would be to your benefit to do it as fast as today. The good news is that it is very common and therefore you will find it on many people. In some cases, it is referred to as dermal anchoring or micro dermal implant. Whatever name you refer to it by, the truth is that it is a great enhancement for your good looks.

Micro Dermal Piercing Micro Dermal Piercing

Micro dermal piercing is easy and cheap to perform. It is a type of body piercing where only a part of the jewelry that you wear on the piercing is visible. Today, it is one of the trendiest types of piercings and everybody is going for it. It is very advantageous in that it heals quickly and it is something that you can do even when you are in a hurry. Since it requires you to have no special tools, you can have it done fast, anywhere in your tight schedule. That explains why it is all the rage in the market today, where everyone goes for this piercing. By all indications, the trend is just catching on and it will be in the market for a long time.

It is very easy to do a micro dermal, easier than most other body piercings. For one, only part of the jewelry is visible while the other part is hidden under the skin. Usually, such jewelry has a titanium plate with holes wide enough to allow tissue to grow through it. The tissue holds the jewelry in place. The good thing about this type of body piercing is that it is very healthy. For example, by use of a titanium plate, it means that the body will not reject it as it would steel. Another advantage is that micro dermal piercing is fast and friendly. It can be done on virtually any part of the body.

Micro Dermal Pierce Micro Dermal Pierce

One hour after you walk into the piercers, you will walk out with your micro dermal piercing done nice and clean. The good thing is that you will not pay much and anyway, the process is not very painful. The piercer will just mark the part that you want your micro dermal to go and then punch a direct hole. The micro dermal titanium plate is then inserted under the skin and you walk out with your looks enhanced. The good thing is that after the wound heals, you can change the visible part of the jewelry to other trendier jewelries in the market. The titanium plate stays intact inside the skin. Chances of infection are minimal, especially if you follow the piercer’s directions to the letter. Usually, you will be advised about how to clean the wound until it heals.

Micro Dermal Piercings Micro Dermal Piercings

There are several types of jewelry for the micro dermal. Such include acrylic, gemstones and others. However, if you can, you are advised to get titanium jewelry because that is very friendly to the skin and it works well with the micro dermal. The good news is that many people go for this trendy type of piercing. Thus, there is a lot of information on the internet about, concerning where you can get it done as well as care for it. If you want it, you are advised to read some about it.

Micro Dermal Piercing Micro Dermal Piercing

Anyone will tell you that a micro dermal piercing is as good as the care that you give it. Even though the piercer will give you a set of instructions to follow, the first thing that you have to do is to leave your piercing alone. Do not disturb it unless when you are cleaning it. If you have to handle it before it heals, do it with surgically clean hands to avoid infections. Be careful about the jewelry and do only as the piercer instructs you to do. A saline solution should be more than enough to clean the wound and you should twist the jewelry along to make sure that the solution penetrates to the depths of the wound.

In rare cases, there might be rejection and therefore it might be necessary to remove the micro dermal. This is easy, and it should not give you the frets. However, do not attempt it, but got to the piercer so that you can have it removed surgically. Good news about this piercing is that it is riding high in the waves of fashion and it is here to stay.

Anti Eyebrow Piercing: The Teardrop Is Beautiful

Anti Eyebrow Piercing: The Teardrop Is Beautiful

One thing that is important to know about anti eyebrow piercing is that although body piercing has been in existence for a long time, this one is practically new and unheard of. The good news about is that since it is all the rage in the market now, you will be one of the first people to adorn your face with this stylish teardrop look. Sometimes, this piercing is also referred to as the teardrop because that is what it reminds you of. It is done exactly on the cheekbone just below the orbit of the eye. Whichever side you care to do it is your preference. This is a surface piercing and therefore care should be taken, just like with all other surface piercings so that healing is enhanced. Although this style is a bit new in the market, many urban youths are taking it up in a big way.

Beauty is in the eyes

anti-eyebrow-piercings anti-eyebrow-piercings

If there is one reason why you should go for the anti eyebrow piercing, it is that beauty is in the eyes really, and you will want to draw all attention to them. There is no better way to enhance your facial beauty even more than with this top range piercing. The good news is that there are expert piercers who will do it for you at an affordable price and with no side effects. Get the teardrop look today and draw the attention of the people to your face. Soon, you will never pass unnoticed wherever you go.

The importance of anti eyebrow piercing is that where as people might not have noticed your face altogether before, you will now have all their attention on your face, more than you can handle. A piercing, whatever variety it is, is meant to draw attention to that part of the body. Why leave the eyes out?

Placement and location are the most important considerations when you want the teardrop piercing. If you want both eyes done, then you will have to have an expert piercer do it so that they come out proportionately. The outcome of the piercing will determine to a great deal what your entire beauty is. For example, if the piercings are done in a disproportionate manner, the truth is that people will think that your facial features are disproportionate. It is imperative that this piercing be done in exactly the right way.

As a surface piercing, care must be taken so that the body does not reject the piercing. The chances of rejection are higher in surface piercing than in other forms of piercing. Therefore, after the procedure, you must take good care of it, exactly as the piercer will tell you. With good after care, it should heal in its estimated time and soon you could be on your looking just as good as you imagined. An experienced piercer will prod the muscles around the upper cheekbones so that he/she can make sure that he has an ideal placement.

Healing teardrop piercing fast
It is very easy for you to care for the piercing because it is right where you can see it. This makes it easier to clean it and monitor its healing progress. Should you follow the piercer’s instructions to the letter, then you will enjoy fast healing. You will also reduce the chances of the piercing migrating or being rejected by the body.

Do not irritate your piercing by constantly fingering the jewelry as that might provoke the body into rejecting it. Fight the urge to scratch around the piercing and prevent strands of hair from getting snagged in the piercing especially if you keep long hair. Hair traps a lot of dust and bacteria and therefore, it might bring infections. You should only touch the piercing when you are cleaning it, and even then, you must clean your hands with a disinfectant.

Do not change the jewelry yourself; you should see a jeweler to fit you out. When doing the piercing, piercers put into mind the swelling factor. Therefore, they make the jewelry a little bigger, at least if they are rings. However, after healing, you might want something trendier and more fitting. It is paramount that you get the replacement done by the piercer.

Anti eyebrow piercings are safe
As long as any other body piercing is concerned, this one is by far the safest. If you follow the piercer’s instruction well, you should heal quickly and fast. The good news is that chances of rejection are minimal, just in case you happen to be in that bracket of the very few unlucky people whose bodies reject jewelry as foreign objects, you should remove the piercing jewelry as soon as you notice any sign of rejection. This will prevent the formation of scars.

Dermal Piercing Dermal Piercing

Dermal piercing refers to many types of piercing which are done on the skin such that when the jewellery is inserted it looks like it is sitting directly on the skin or on the surface of the skin. The good thing about this piercing is that it is simple compared to other types of body piercings. Jewelleries used for this kind of piercings are smaller and thus allow for placement any where on the surface of the body. Many people love this and so do the artists simply because it is very easy to do. Should there arise the need to remove the jewellery, it is easier to cajole it out with no side effects at all. Because it goes with tiny jewellery, there is minimal scarring.

To some extent, this kind of piercing is also very close to surface piercing, only that this one is simpler to do and that it incorporates smaller jewellery. Although this technique is not as popular as others are in the market, it is gaining ground fast. Research work into it is going on at a fast rate and so anyone can go for it without any qualms.

Like is common with all body piercings, do not go for dermal piercing blindly, but it would be more advisable to get some information about it. Among the things that you should look up include the duration that the piercing should take to heal and the care that you should take of it. The good news is that today, there is a lot of information about any type of body piercing on the internet. Likewise, there are many artists who are willing to perform this procedure on you. Before you settle on any one studio, make sure that the piercer is credible and that they have done it before.

Dermal piercing is also closely associated with dermal anchoring. In dermal anchoring, a single hole is punched into the skin, and then a taper is used to help insert jewellery inside the skin. The good thing about this method is that it is very simple to do and has minimal side effects. In case the jewellery is to be removed, it is simple work doing so. Because it sounds so simple to do, you might be tempted to do it at home. Do that at your own peril. After all, there is always the danger of rejection by the body. The good news is that if you let an expert piercer do it for you, you will come out looking all the better for it. This piercing is becoming popular very fast.

Areas that are prone to movement should be avoided because the jewellery is more apt to be knocked off. Before one can change the jewellery, it is important to let the piercing heal completely. Usually, the artist will recommend the best form of jewellery to go with this type of body piercing and it is important to follow their instructions to the letter. The good news is that if you follow all the instructions, you should heal very fast. Consider any kind of body piercing as a minor surgical procedure, of which you must do everything possible to protect from infection. This is something that you must not leave to chance.

If not taken care of properly, sometimes the jewellery may be rejected by the body. The human body sometimes rejects foreign objects, which is accompanied by swelling because of the body trying to push the object out. Should such a case occur, it would be important to go back to the piercer so that the jewellery can be safely removed. However, this does not mean that your piercing will be troublesome. If you have it done by an expert, you are guaranteed to come out of it all right.

Walk in to the studio that is close to you and ask to see the pictures of what other dermal piercing jobs that they have done before. Do not be cajoled into agreeing to a piercing job without knowing that you are in safe hands. The good news is that if you find the right piercer, you will come out looking amazing. If you have your piercing where your friends can see it, you will be the centre of attention. Seeing as this trend is now gaining ground fast, it would only be smart for you to be among the first people to get it. Just like surface piercing, you should give it the same care and it will heal fast. Go for dermal piercing today if you want to improve your image. Choose any place to display your jewellery and make sure your friends see it. Because it is a simple process, the cost of doing the piercing is cheap.
